not my pic/writing. I found this on Tumblr.
I thought this was interesting. When I first decided to start trying to be vegan, I thought it would be REALLY hard. That first picture is pretty much how I felt; I felt like animal products were near impossible to avoid. But over time (as short as just a few weeks!), it has become much easier. I have realized that the alternatives are not as hard to find or as much of an inconvenience (if any) as I thought they would be. I think "vegan" is intimidating to a lot of people but I have found that day to day it's actually quite simple. I do find it easier at home than when I'm out. Here's my thing, vegan or not, why would you eat or buy something if you don't know what is in it? If I don't know, I pass on it. Read the ingredients.
I like the line "Being vegan is not about being perfect, it is about causing the least harm possible!" I think the word vegan intimidates me because I feel like it's this set of guidelines that I'd have to abide by 100% or else I'm a failure. Honestly, the only thing stopping me from saying "I'm vegan" is the fear that I will "fail" at some point and feel super guilty! This quote makes me feel better. Although I still can't quite commit. It'll be interesting to see if I still feel that way at the end of this month.
Bottom line: There is always an alternative.
I'm vegan, and you do get used to the new life style pretty quickly! You don't have to be perfect, just do the best that you can!
