canadaday

Happy Canada Day!

I did this Canada inspired mani on Wednesday... kind of jumped the gun, haha. I have a different one on now! I'll post it tomorrow.  After I did this mani, my order of spectraflair topcoat arrived in the mail so I HAD to try that out. A girl in the Polish-aholics group on Facebook ordered some spectraflair pigment which is a holo powder you can add to any liquid. It's normally used as car paint but of course, us polish girls know it's amazing for nail polish. Holo collections like China Glaze OMG go for a lot of money but this girl made these top coats that turn any manicure into a holo one... and sold the bottles for only $5!! I actually ordered a second one for $6 (she added ball bearings) because I couldn't bare the thought of running out of this or something happening to it. haha It's amazing. See for yourself!

In the shade, it is very innocent. I put two coats on the index finger and one coat on the pinky. One coat looks  better in the shade over red because the red shows through more. The red is on every finger except obviously my ring finger.

BAM! In the sun. (before clean up)

Here is how I actually wore it.

red SH "Cardinal
white Insta-dry "Whirlwind White"

Then I just had to swatch it over some colours. I chose a few random ones; I wanted variety. I swatched them on my nail wheels with their co-ordinating colours. You can see the polishes I chose both with and without the spectraflair topcoat.

This pink worked VERY well. It is a duochrome polish.

The bright orange was more subtle but gorgeous. It's not a shade I wear much as is so the topcoat makes me like it a lot more (someone left this bottle at my house a long time ago, I didn't purchase it).

This is probably my favourite. I got this polish at Sally's. It was on clearance $1.99 and then you could take an extra 50% off plus I had a 15% off coupon. Very good deal! It's a really deep purple; it didn't photograph well on it's own but the holo stood out so well!
(the light shining on my maple leaf makes the top of it disappear haha)

I bought Color Club "Revvvolution" as my first linear holo polish last month. At first I thought it was a dud (as in no holo effect) but it's not! I did one with a coat of spectraflair topcoat and left the other. They are VERY similar. Obviously the one with topcoat has a stronger holo but it's not necessary. I loove dark greys.  Without the holo, this shade is still gorgeous.

The colors I used the topcoat on
WnW "Frosted Fuschia", Color Club "Revvvolution", SH "Crushed, Finger Paints "Whose Hue?"

As a side note, Canada is amazing. I miss living there SO much and it will always be home to me, whether or not I get to live there again. I moved to the US because my American husband joined the American military. I'll be celebrating July 4th too. I may not take pride in living in the United States but I have a ton of pride for my husband and the military here so that makes me a bit more patriotic :P
