Vegan MoFo: PB Banana Shake

It's Vegan MoFo time again!! Which also celebrates me being vegan for one year hehe I became vegan just before October of last year, vowing to stick to it at least for October and go from there. Obviously I chose to stuck with it! Haven't had any regrets whatsoever.

So I have a theme for Vegan MoFo this year which is "crazy sexy lifestyle". Basically, I will be sharing recipes (way more than usual), information, tips etc that follow Kris Carr's Crazy Sexy Diet way of eating but in a way that is comfortable to me. Basically, this is a lifestyle way of eating not a short term diet, which is different for everyone!

So will be adhering to the following guidelines in the recipes I post:
- gluten free or with a gluten free option
- vegan obviously!
- very limited sugar, preferably agave nectar
- 80% alkaline 20% acidic, give or take
- some "vegan alternatives" such as faux meats/cheeses + tofu
- little to no processed food (besides what I mentioned above)

Crazy Sexy Diet is also no caffeine or alcohol but in my "crazy sexy lifestyle", I will have some. So, I will share some recipes that include these things!

I'll have a minimum of 20 vegan food posts on the blog this month but perhaps more! That includes my usual "Friday Foodie" posts.

If there are any recipes you'd like to see or if you have questions you want answered in a post, please post them in the comments!

Now let's kick off Vegan MoFo 2012 with a simple, heathy and definitely delicious shake! Yep, shakes can be healthy.

PB Banana Shake

Ingredients:
1 1/2 frozen bananas sliced (slice prior to freezing, you'll thank me later)
1 tbsp natural peanut butter (or other nut butter if you prefer)
at least 1 cup non dairy milk (I used unsweetened almond)
1 tsp chopped peanuts (optional)

You can also add greens like spinach and kale to make this even healthier! It'll turn your shake green but it won't alter the taste.
*
Add all of the ingredients except the chopped peanuts to your blender. Blend until completely smooth. If you want it less thick, just add more milk. Top with the peanuts, if you'd like that. That's it! So easy but oh man, it's so delicious. It really tastes like an indulgence but one you can have guilt free.

Crazy Sexy Diet Beginning

First up, some food from before I started the cleanse that I'm currently on.

frozen banana and pineapple "sorbet"

veggie burger and wedge fries

cake in a mug topped with frozen banana "sorbet" for husbands birthday

waffle topped with agave, apple and cinnamon

leftover Thai One On yellow curry. soo good.

tortilla shell pizzas

burrito bowl with spinach

pierogies (last wheat indulgence before the cleanse haha)

pinapple, banana, coconut milk (canned) popsicle

"ham and cheese" sandwich with avocado

chocolate zucchini muffins

Now onto some cleanse food! First of all, the cleanse I'm doing is the Crazy Sexy Diet cleanse by Kris Carr. That is also the name of the book. It has soo much information on eating clean and high alkaline; I love it and really glad I bought it. For the cleanse I will be eating gluten free, no sugar besides Stevia/agave (but I only have powdered sugar and find it gross so unless I splurge on the liquid stuff I won't be having that), very little processed food (vegan substitutes are okay but, like, no or oreos lol), 80% alkaline/20% acidic, no caffeine (I have had some green tea though), no alcohol and of course, vegan. Now that isn't too challenging for me because I already eat pretty clean and high alkaline. The biggest change/challenge for me is the gluten-free because I'm not used to that. You don't have to go gluten free for the cleanse but I wanted to try it. I've been wanting to cut back on gluten anyway. Unless I feel really sick when I start having it again, I don't plan on giving it up fully but we'll see! No caffeine or alcohol for 21 days isn't a big deal for me but not things I will give up after the cleanse.  My hope is that this will create good habits that have me eating cleaner than ever! So far so good.

I will * the recipes that are from the book Crazy Sexy Diet.  Also, for the first week Kris Carr gives you a sample menu so I mostly stuck to that where as week two and week three I am planning myself.

Day One:
juice, *tofu eggless salad wrap, carrot + hummus, *kale avocado salad + *teriyaki tofu, banana with cinnamon

 Day Two
*green guru smoothie, salad, apple with almond butter, dark chocolate (not pictured), *Thai "peanut" veggies with quinoa

 Day Three:
juice, carrot cake balls, juice, *I love nori rolls

 Day Four:
gluten free waffles with chia pudding and vanilla almond yogurt (not pictured), juice, carrot cake ball, *tomato rice soup

It doesn't look like a ton of food but honestly, everything has been very filling/satisfying! I haven't felt hungry and definitely not starved. I try to start each morning with water and lemon. During the day/evening I'll have herbal tea and water.

I have been posting my daily eats to Tumblr every day so if you wanna follow along there HERE is the link.
