Rain Boots

I finally bought some rain boots! I'd been wanting some for a while. We don't get a lot of rain here in Southern California but I justified it with the fact that we go to WA every December and my feet get all wet and cold every time! haha I used a Sears gift card to buy these. So far, I'm quite happy with them. I love the look and fit. Only complaint is they rub against my ankles, giving me blisters. I'm hoping some thicker socks will fix that though.  The coat is also new and is from Target. Old Navy appears to have the exact same style for half the price right now though! Grr.  It's really comfortable and exactly what I was looking for. I like that it has a large hood and two sets of pockets.

made in Canada, yay!

I'm wearing NYX Round Lipstick "Louisiana" with Milani HD Advanced Lip Color "Vivacious Fuschia" on top. Love it! Swatches will be up on Tuesday.

Makeup pics were before haircut and outfit pics were after, if you were wondering. I got a couple inches cut off again. Fun, fun!

Neon Tips & Glitter

I gave Milani "Peach Creme" a try the other day and discovered it makes for a great almost naked nail! It hides imperfections but still lets your white tips show through, giving it a more natural look. Only downside is even at three coats it is still a bit streaky. Still, I like the look and plan to wear it more.  The neon tips are Sinful Colors "Neon Melon".

With flash.

This is without topcoat. Very glossy on its own!

The look below was a bit of a happy accident that I thought I'd share. I'd applied three coats of Milani "Peach Creme" and then used a gentle buffing block to buff my nails. The result was this great matte look! It made it look even more natural. I'll have to try it with a matte polish to sometime to compare. My actual nails are pretty ugly when naked, sadly.

This glitter look is much more sparkly in person but I'm sharing it anyway. Yeah, another cat eye. heheh I might do another glitter look later on just to mix it up.

Face:
Rimmel Stay Matte foundation
Wet n Wild Blush in Mellow Wine
Sheer Cover concealer
MAC Zoom Lash Mascara
elf Studio High Definition Powder

Eyes:
MAC Fluidline in Backtrack
theBalm Meet Matt(e) palette
Sally Girl Sparkle Effects (see below)

Lips:
Jordana lipstick in Matte Nude
Befine Lip Serum (looooove this stuff)

I know it's hard to see the glitter in the pictures above. I think it's more noticeable in person since it's very sparkly. Here is what it looks like!

Rainbow Theme: Pink

Friday foodie will have to wait until tonight, I just don't have the time. I went out country dancing last night for the first time (note to self: learn line dances) and this morning I am off to a baby shower.

But here is the final rainbow theme colour...pink!  I went with Milani "Pink Out Loud" a great glass flecked jelly along with Zoya "Kissy" which has red glitter, pink bar glitter and silver holo bar glitter. I love these polishes.

Here are the runner ups for my favourite polishes of each colour.
Red: OPI "A Ruby for Rudolph". Red shimmer.
Orange: Julep "Hayden". A very pale peach neon.
Yellow:  Sinful Colors 24/7. Neon.
Green: A England "Saint George".  This arrived in the mail the day after I did green and I just know it will be my new favourite green!
Blue: Zoya "Yummy".  A true sky blue.
Purple: Fingerpaints "Grape Gumball". A great glass flecked shade.
Pink:  Zoya "Shelby" and Julep "Cameron".  Perfect bubble gum and hot pinks.

Generally, Zoya and Julep make my favourite shades, it would seem!

Orders

My husband and received some pretty shocking news yesterday! Orders to 29 Palms! Marine Corps wants us to move there sometime in July. So soon! This was very unexpected. My husband is trying to sort it out today, talk to people, because it really messes up his career path. I won't go into specific details because it's confusing to anyone who isn't used to the military or doesn't know us but basically he re-enlisted (signed up for another four years) for a certain job (Recon) which he was training for but had to put that on pause due to an injury a few weeks ago. The plan was for him to heal up and then continue with training. Well, if we are sent to 29 Palms (which is about an hour from Palm Springs...very isolated compared to where we are now!) he will no longer be training for that job and will in fact be doing something entirely different (Infantry). Did that sort of make sense? Of course it's normal for military families to be moved, that is just a part of the lifestyle (although Marine families often stay in the place for years. It's not as much moving around as I think a lot of people assume). Even it being last minute and out of the blue isn't too surprising; Marine Corps loves to do things at the last minute. But the fact that this goes against his contract is kind of upsetting. We'll make the best of it, of course. I will be awfully sad to leave this place (I've never lived away from the ocean!) and all of our friends though! We'll see what happens. I'll keep you guys posted!

(shorts H&M, shoes + belt + hair elastic/bracelet Target, bracelet Closet, tshirt Hanes)

I love love these Goodie hair elastics that double as a cute bracelet. I recently picked up another set of blue/silver ones (previously bought the black/gold) plus the headband/necklace ones. They are comfortable and cute.  $5/pkg.

I love my Urban Decay 24/7 Shadow Pencils so much. The colour applies so easily and does not budge. You can use them as a shadow but they do not blend a ton so you have to be careful. I prefer them as a thick eyeliner. Today I wanted a thinner line along my lashes so I used an angled brush which I rubbed the 24/7 stick onto. I was really happy with the results. Milani has some similar ones out now; I have my eye on the green one.

Don't mind the mega shine. I didn't realize how poor the quality of these pictures was until I uploaded them!

Almost Spring

Spring is almost here!  Bring on the wedges, floral prints, rolled cuffs, pastels and so on, right?

(shoes Payless Shoe Source, sweater + jeans Target, scarf Burlington Coat Factory)

Here's a purple look I did with the outfit above. Then I added a shimmery brown which I had picked up that day; I've included swatches. Here is the before.

I got this Milani eyeshadow for 75% off at CVS last week! Such a deal. I also own this one which is from the same line.
It is much more sparkly in person!

wet over primer, dry over primer, dry no primer
It's brown but has a subtle pink shimmer which you can see better above. It showed up the most in the wet swatch. It's has red sparkles but it was a very overcast day so they don't show up well here.

Here it is applied in the outer corners and crease to the makeup look pictured above.  It is applied dry here.

I also tried out a new foundation that was also 75% off! It applied like powder but is almost creamy. It covers nicely and is very matte! More matte than anything else I've tried. It controls shine SO well.  It is a bit drying though. I have combination skin so I get a bit dry as well as a  bit shiny. Anyway it's called Milani Minerals Creamy Compact and I got the shade "Creamy Natural".  I do see myself using it a lot though and now I'm curious about their other pressed foundations!
